About Us

Musix with Music is operated by Matthew Gately with great support from his teaching staff.

Matthew is a professional trumpeter who began learning to play as an 8 year old at Penrith Christian Community School. He enjoyed lead trumpet playing in his school's stage and concert bands and many singing roles in the annual all-school musicals. He continued his studies as a teenager at the Conservatorium of Music High School. Here he studied trumpet with Paul Goodchild, Dick Montz and Lou Campbell, and piano with Natalia Sheludiakova and Judy Bailey. As a high school kid Matthew had the opportunity to perform with many ensembles of varying size and genre. These include 180 piece choirs, large orchestras, jazz ensembles and brass ensembles.

Matthew continued his studies at UWS where he earned his Bachelor of Music, again rehearsing and performing with many ensembles adding Big Bands and Pit Orchestras to his list. While Matthew enjoys all genres of music he has a real passion for commercial and lead playing. He has performed with many jazz and latin groups and continues to perform in community theater orchestras and is a casual member of the Penrith Symphony Orchestra.

Matthew began teaching and conducting while still in high school. His first band was Mamre Christian College's senior band, and they won gold at their first eisteddfod in 1998. Since this time Matthew has taught and conducted in many schools as far east as Manly Boys and as far west as Katoomba High.

Musix with Music opened in 2004 with 3 schools and it has started new school bands every year since.

We help schools set up new band programs or help develop and improve existing band programs.

It is a strong belief of Musix with Music that students have the opportunity to perform. Performances can range from in-school presentation evenings to public concerts and competitions.

Musix with Music provides a variety of affordable school concert band program packages relieving schools and parent groups from otherwise arduous administrative responsibilities, whilst providing children with an opportunity to learn to read music and play an instrument in the school band.

Teaching is provided for Brass, Woodwind and Percussive instruments, including Flute, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Alto and Tenor Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba and various Percussion instruments.
